Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam and his wife Dr Shayla Shagufta Islam have been infected with Covid-19, according to a press release.
Their samples were given for the Coronavirus test as they were feeling sick,and the results the DNCC mayor and his wife received last night showed them to be positive, the press release said.
A team of DNCC including the mayor went to clean a canal in Mirpur on Thursday and he had been feeling sick since then, an official of the DNCC office told.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza, Secretary Md Mojammel Huq and the mayor's APS (personal) Md Reshad Morshed have also been diagnosed with Covid-19 recently.
